Two personalities in Scottish football have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list today. Barry Ferguson, captain of the Scotland national team, and Willie McDougall, former security adviser of the Scottish FA, have both been made an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
Willie McDougall, who retired as SFA security adviser in December, but continues to be involved in football through UEFA, was made an MBE for services to football. In over a decade with the SFA, he worked closely with Scottish football fans to maintain their excellent reputation around the world, and was also active in anti-racism activities such as Show Racism the Red Card.
Barry Ferguson has also been made an MBE for services to football, and recieves the boost as he prepares to lead Scotland into a tough European Championship campaign. As well as captaining the national side, he captained his club, Rangers, into the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. He is also active in charity work.
An SFA spokesman said: "We are delighted that Barry and Willie have been recognised for their efforts, and send them our heartiest congratulations."
