Scotland are set to face Spain away on September 2 as the final warm-up match before the 2006 World Cup qualifiers — at the request of the players.

Berti Vogts' men were expected to play a European minnow ahead of playing Slovenia at Hampden on September 8 but Vogts has been moved into a U-turn.

He said: "I know we have to build up confidence but the players said: 'We love to play big nations.'"

Found this on a good website

http://www.scotland-mad.co.uk

The SFA have announced their schedule of fixtures for 2004/2005, which includes a free date in their diary for an away friendly on Thursday 2 September 2004. The rumour mill has the likely opponent for this game as being Spain. So there could yet be another outing for those sombreros currently gathering dust in cupboards up and down the country.

Dindgy small holes creep widly free!
