Geoff Hurst's first goal in extra-time in the 1966 World Cup final for England against Germany hardly ranks as a poor refereeing decision because it has still not yet been proved whether the ball crossed the line.
But tae this day Germans argue that the linesman incorrectly gave the goal that put England intae a 3-2 lead, and will point tae some inconclusive enhanced footage recently produced to "prove" it.
Hurst went on to score another goal to clinch a hat-trick and a 4-2 win.
TV evidence would spoil the whole football ethics. It's the dodgy/dubious (sometimes tinted specs) decisions that make our game great. The percentage of error aint that great and in most cases is the manager trying to blame the ref rather than to admit his own tactics were rank!! It's swing and roundabouts. The law of averages always evens it out over a season. Yes the goal against ManU(re) should have stood but where do we draw the line (pun....)
Do we only use it on the goal line or do we stop the game everytime the opposition question the refs decision? This will also bring into question of who has and does not have cameras. It would be fine if the game was against an SPL side, but do you honestly believe than Stenhousemuir will have cameras all over their stadium? Bringing in cameras would spoil our game. It has been watered down so much in recent years that there is very little physical difference between men's football and women's football......obviously apart from the tits (but enough about the Old Firm)
Imagine every Saturday night at the boozer. Everbody agreeing that the ref was 100% spot on with every decision. Imagine never having the right to dispute the dodgy hand/shoulder ball, offside, corner/goal kick. Everyone having to accept that you will sit down and never shout at the officials 'cos thay can never be wrong.......fcuk that for a sport. Anyone want to buy a season ticket?
It happens once a season. Actually think if we could guarantee whatever was introduced would go no further than is it a goal or not, can't argue. As long as any signal, vibrating arm, etc, only went to the ref.
But it wouldn't be the end...................
