Mozilla Firefox v Microsoft Explorer

Been using Firefox for a day or two, anyone else using it? Haven't had a pop up yet and it seems faster on the feature light sites.

Used to get Internet explorer crashing about 50% of the time I had more than one window open. "This programme must be closed down etc, etc". This hasn't happened since I changed to Firefox.

Might be on to something here guys, plenty more agree on other messageboards I'm on. Will keep you posted regarding spyware, adware etc.

Only problem so far, I don't get the option to change font size, text etc on my messages on this board. Any fix Webmaster?

Been using FireFox for 2 weeks. Never had a problem with IE, but thought I would give FireFox a go. Would not say it's any faster (some people do) but it certainly has a better pop-up blocker. Security is supposidly better, but again this is all down to the user.
Smart User = Secure PC
Numpty = Internet Server PC

I have 5 browsers installed:

Internet Explorer - No Problems.
Netscape - Does not handle Forums as good as IE. Lots of scripts don't show.
Opera - By far the fastest browser on earth, but comes with ads...(unless you find the crack....kazaa anyone)
NeoPlanet - Quite a cool browser (Uses same IE Interface but is more for customising)
FireFox - Jury is still out, but no probs so far.

I have no interest in the Netscape v Internet Explorer arguments. Netscape aint trendy and Internet Explorer aint a dinosaur. Both have their target audience And as mentioned above, security is not an issue if you have a secure PC in the first place.

Ah....The Netscape ghost returns. FireFox is a close cousin to Netscape. It reads code differently from IE and therefore no, as yet there is no fix.

I've contacted sparklite to see if there is a workaround.

Sparklit have informed me that the "Advanced Editor" is a plug-in only recognized by Internet Explorer.
The only work around is to use BB Tags which can be explained here:

Cheers boss.

Tell you what, just shows how we've all been brainwashed by Microsoft. Why do you use the other 3 browsers?

I wouldn't say brainwashed. It's more that we were not aware there was an option. When we first get our PC we are novices and use the tools provided. Internet Explorer was not only one of the browsers pre-installed on our PC, but the only browser installed and therefore we all (by default) used it. I would never slag Microsoft (Allen and Gates), what they done was great business.

The other browsers I simply use to make sure my web sites code is read the way I want it to.
This site for example. Once I completed the design I checked it on all browsers for compatability.
The 2 enemies of Web Design are

  • Browsers.
They all read code differently and therefore you have to sacrifice alot of ideas so that it confirms with all of them.
  • Monitor resolution
By default most web sites are designed to suit an 800x600 resolution. This is default for 15" Monitors which is still used by the highest percentage of PC owners. This is very restrictive and pure pants........Every 15" monitor should be binned by law.
I manage to get around this by using Hidden Tables and percentages rather than Pixels. I once re-designed the whole site, but decided not to use it as those with 15" monitors would have had scroll bars along the bottom of the screens.

I don't have waffle some ****..............
